CME's Manufacturing Index indicates the strength of Canada’s most important business sector. It is calculated as the difference between the per cent of manufacturers whose business is expanding versus those that report declining orders in CME’s monthly Business Conditions Survey. A negative number means that manufacturing activity is contracting in Canada.
